gbb.flags is nonzero:0x00000039 read-only firmware id: Google_Glimmer.5216.198.11

Suddenly this error pops up:

gbb.flags is nonzero:0x00000039
read-only firmware id:  Google_Glimmer.5216.198.11
active firmware id:  Google_Glimmer.5216.198.11

Was previously used in classroom.

Already tried OS restore from thumb drive.

Any thoughts or tips for repair?????

Thanks

Re: gbb.flags is nonzero:0x00000039 read-only firmware id: Google_Glimmer.5216.198.11

I have the same problem. We purchased alot of laptops for schools and reimaged them. This one came to us with a no power issue. So I replaced the mainboard, and this problem came up.

gbb.flags is nonzero:0x00000039
read-only firmware id:  Google_Glimmer.5216.198.11
active firmware id:  Google_Glimmer.5216.198.11

Along with "OS verification is off at start up." And to turn OS verification on by pressing space key. - pressing space bar key only shows dev_key_switch off or something similar to that (since it goes by pretty fast).

I did alot of research on it and it seems that it has something to do with the read/write screw on the Mainboard itself. Hardware manual also said the same thing, but when I removed the read/write screw on the Mainboard, the chromebook still will not let me go into Developer Mode.

Did you ever figure out the solutions for this? Are you able to get into developer mode?

We took it to a Lenovo repair shop and they fixed it under warranty. In our case it was a Lenovo Chromebook. The tech had to run some type of patch or firmware update because he had replaced the motherboard.

If I can find out more details, I'll pass it along here.

I have solved the problem. I used the Recovery Shim and ran it on the chromebook. There is no way to fix the issue without the Recovery Shim.

Unfornately, you will need a Recovery Shim from the Lenovo Servicer Website. Unless you are Lenovo Certified and have a servicer login, there is no way for a random customer to get a hold of the Shim.

Sorry, I couldn't help you out though.

I just fix the same issue.

1.Remove R W screw from the motherboard

2.After it boots into developer mode, press CTR+ALT+F2 the key, this should open a terminal

3.In the terminal type "chronos"

4.Then type /usr/share/vboot/bin/set_gbb_flags.sh 0

Try it . this will fix the issue.
