E540 Keyboard not working properly

2014-07-10, 17:07 PM

Hi!

I'm desperate for some help. My new E540 keyboard is not working properly. When I type the cursor every few seconds jumps to a different location without my touching it or the touchpad or the pointer. Also, function keys are not working well, eg. pressing Fn plus F1 doesn't mute the speaker but brings on Chrome help. I tried looking for an E540 keyboard driver on Lenovo (my laptop came without an OS) but I couldn't find one. I also tried a search on Google but couldn't find anything useful. I don't know where else to look for help. I'm using Windows 7. This is my first Lenovo computer.

Thank you in advance!

Alenka

I just want to add that I have installed Thinkvantage system update and have updated all drivers except for bios but it didn't resolve the issue. :smileysad:

And one other thing that could be related to the problem. I have 4 missing drivers: PCI simple communications controller, SM bus controller, USB controller and an Unknown device (ACPI INT 33A0). How could I install the right drivers? Lenovo Solution Centre only points out the problem but doesn't say how to solve it and Thinkvantage did not even detect the problem.

I think I have found the solution. The problem was in touchpad sensitivity - I would accidentally touch it with the palm of my hand while typing and that would move the cursor. I have installed the UltraNav driver and the problem no longer happens.

The Fn keys started working when I updated  some other drivers (don't know which) using the Lenovo Thinkvantage system.

So it seems all is ok now. Except for the fact that this problem happened and took some 5 hours of my life away and that I received no support from Lenovo staff. Not happy and I'm really not sure I would buy another Lenovo.

Still need to figure out which drivers to install to fix the PCI simple communications controller, USB controller and an Unknown device (ACPI INT 33A0). So more investment on my time required... :smileyfrustrated:

alenka,

for the "PCI simple communications controller" I've used the "Intel(R) Management Engine Interface for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) - ThinkPad Edge E440, Edge E540" driver (it's listed under chipset drivers". it worked for me on win8.1 64bit and lenovo e540

good luck :)
