Fixed DVD/CDRW drive in R61e..... SATA or ATAPI?

2008-05-22, 2:20 AM
I can't quite figure this one out from the documentation I've read, so I'm asking here.

I plan to replace the internal DVD-ROM/CDRW drive at some point with a DVD burning unit, but would like to know whether the interface is SATA (1.5 or 3.0?) and whether any of the current ultrabay units will slip into that slot (provided one uses the lock-screw to hold them in) as-is?

Anyone done this yet?

I've had my R61e (a 7650-84U) for just three days now and everything about it works great. Really happy with this machine.

That's always an option but it's not the answer to my question.

your drive should be ATAPI not SATA...

Thanks, that gets me closer. Will try one of my ATAPI ultrabay devices for "fit" once I get around to opening up the machine for some good reason.

What with all the chatter about upgrading the CPU, I sort-of assumed someone might have tried to install an internal DVD burner by now. Last time I checked, (over here in the US market) the ultrabay versions had a street price around $75, new.

this machine should use the ultrabay enhanced drive, i remember in Australia the DVD-RW ultra bay costs $299 AUD, right now Australian dollar is exchanging at 0.967 USD for every one AUD....
