Future of the SL series?

2009-03-20, 16:39 PM

My worst fear: the SL300 disappears along with the SL400, now leaving just the SL500 (my LEAST favorite lenovo) on the purchase screen! Anyone know why this is happening?

The next thing you know, the entire line of SL series will either disappear or "resurrect".

ADMIN- edited title.  Please avoid inflammatory statements.  I think you are fairly expressing a concern, but it is probably better to frame this as a question rather than an emphatic (and likely erroneous) statement.  Thanks.

Re: THE SL SERIES IS DYING!!!

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.  Suppose a Lenovo engineer read the boards, and ran over and checked the fans used, found that 80% failed noise level checks, got sent back and they're waiting a month to get new ones.  Meanwhile, they focus on fulfilling orders for just one flavor SL series because they have plenty of mobos and cases for that one.

This temporary prod outage could mean anything.

I certainly hope you're wrong. I have only had my SL500 for a few months. Then again, they don't seem to be addressing anyone's issues.

What I meant is that only the SL500 is the only one left at lenovo.com, right after the SL300 disappered after the SL400 disappered.

i know the "moderators" dont neccesarily like people giving blanket comments on the product ... i had my r60 stolen and replaced it with the "brand new tor SL500" last september as recommended by my favourite IBM reseller ... if the range is being withdrawn i'll feel like i have been sold a pup ... the new r series were not out then ... whilst it operates ok .. the keyboard is so spongy its hugely disappointing ... coupled Office 2007 its my "least satisfactory" Thinkpad ever .( 4 different models each one better than the last except the SL500 ) ... to the extent i just want to replace it with something better ... but heh at least i did not put vista on Ho! ho! ... look i'll still replace it with a thinkpad tho' ... its still a brand loyalty thing !

I hope it's not dying, as that means replacement parts for my sl300 will be hard to get and resale value won't be as high probably.

Man, I did not know the SL500 was so unloved. I should have read it before buying one...

I don't know, I've had my SL 500 for going on 4 months now and so far and haven't had near the problems others have posted here. Sure, I've ran into a couple of minor glitches here and there (who doesn't?  with any product), but nothing that couldn't yet be solved.

*knocks on wood*

"Unloved?"

Hardly.   :smileyhappy:
