Is the SL Series that much hated? The SL400 is a good model...dunno why it disappeared first before the SL300...

the sl300's pretty cool.  Almost as light as a T400, but much cheaper and comparable performance.  I like mine.  I'm glad I waited 2 months to get it (except for a bright pixel, #$S&).

I would say so, but it's mostly from the thinkpad owners.  If the SL series was not labeled a thinkpad, then it would've gotten more love or less hate, however one percieves it.  It's a very capable laptop for the price.

I like mine a lot.  Only thing i would change is its thickness and weight.  Everything else is good for me.  Even that huge thread about the "noisy" fan.  I prefer efficient active cooling over passive cooling.  Think about it from an engineering standpoint.   A single fan that cools both the c2d and nvidia gpu and people want to turn that off?!  Not the brightest idea....

I'm pretty convinced the SL400 was the most popular SL, second by SL300, which may have resulted it in disappearing first, before the SL300.  Apparently people don't like 15.4 inch screens...too big.

IT'S ABOUT TIME!

2009-04-04, 2:50 AM

The SL400 is finally back on Lenovo! It's in the USA though, but I'll just get it shipped to a friend in New York to bring it to me...

Re: Future of the SL series?

I have had many different laptops simultaneousely, when I was a consultant.

I had a Compaq and it had problems. Compaq was not quick to resolve my problems, nor those of the thousands of people who complained, and now their reputation is crap. It was their own fault.

Toshiba's were great for years, but have since come up with serious overheating issues that have literally burned up numerous machines. Toshiba continued to deny the problems and now their reputation is crap. Thats was their fault.

To date I have seen 6 consultants get blackballed for recommending Compaq and Toshiba, in the field. Currently Lenovo appears to be following suit. I hope they don't continue on their current course. The fact Lenovo is summarily dismissing peoples complaints and issues, in the same fashion as Compaq and Toshiba, leads me to suspect they are doing the same. It's what we call in the field, "Penny wise, pound foolish." They are investing in new designs and ignoring older designs finding it to be cost effective. When people stop buying Lenovo products due to poor support, Lenovo will be scratching their heads and wondering why.

Instead of sending Lenovo staff to read our input and edit uncomfortable posts  to sound good for Lenovo, they should be reporting back the problems and finding solutions. Hey Mark_Lenovo! Don't edit my post! Pass it on to someone who has some say on what Lenovo does. Lenovo provided great service in the past (as IBM). It's time to bring the service back. As it stands my next machines (yes plural) will not be Lenovo unless someone wakes up. The real shame is that I really love Think Pads.

@PhotoMaster

I couldnt agree more. Ive had too many problems with my sl400 and the big one that no one has a real answer for is the volume buttons.

I doubt the volume problem is a connection issue, as too many people are having it. I noticed most of my issues occured after updating my bios. Reverting back to the old bios has fixed some issues, but not most of them. I just hope Lenovo wakes up and smells the coffee burning, before they go down in flames.
