How to turn off web search results in Win 10 search box

I just got my new Thinkpad L13 Gen 3 Windows 10 Pro laptop, and am having trouble turning off the web search feature in my search box. I only want to search my computer using that box - I don't want to see related web searches or Quick Search suggestions.

I think I have made all of the needed changes in Group Policy - enabling the search choices to not allow searches in the search box, disabling Cortana, disabling Allow Search Highlights, and  in regedit DisableWebSearch set to (1). These settings match my older Win 10 Pro laptop and that one doesn't get any web-related entries, tips or hints in the search box. Just local results from the computer itself.

Is there any other setting that I should adjust - or something specific to this particular laptop configuration?

I also have it set for Chrome to be the default browser - not Edge - if that matters.

Any additional settings to try as I really don't want that feature.

Thanks!

Re:How to turn off web search results in Win 10 search box

Thanks! I have tried every setting in Group Policy and looked at a few registry changes. I did finally find a setting in Group Policy under User Configuration that seemed to have done the trick. It was in User Config, not Computer Config, which is where you'd think it would be.

Here's the path: User Configuration >Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer > Turn off display of recent search > set to Enabled.

So far so good!

How to turn off web search results in Win 10 search box

Re:How to turn off web search results in Win 10 search box

Hello TN2020!

Greetings!

Just to be sure, are you referring to the search box, right next to the Windows icon? If yes, press the Windows+S keyboard shortcut --> Settings --> toggle Search online and include web results to the off position.

Let us know how it goes.

Re:How to turn off web search results in Win 10 search box

Thanks! Yes, I am referring to that search box next to the Windows Icon. In my search settings I don't seem to have that option to toggle Search online and include web results to the off position. I'm not sure where that might be - but in the meanwhile, I have found a work around in Group Policy. Your solutions sounds much easier, but I can't seem to see that setting anywhere.

Thanks for the reply. I'll post back if I have additional questions!

Greetings TN2020 ,

Have you also tried  DisableSearchBoxSuggestions to 0 ?

You can also check Recent search suggestion to set as off.

Re:How to turn off web search results in Win 10 search box

Hello All,

As noted , different Group policy path can differ per version but general idea would be the same.

When having changes to the registry , it is recommended to have a registry back up else system restore point to go back just in case something goes different.
