Install XP on SATA hard drive

2008-05-21, 4:59 AM
I purchased ThinkPad R61i with Vista on it. But I plan on installing XP Pro that I got from newegg.com.

I know that XP will not recognize the SATA drive. I was told by Lenovo support that the SATA drivers for XP are available.

I found the following driver, but I am not sure if this is the correct one and what I ned to do to complete this.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-62909

Would it be easier to slipstream the driver using nLite or do you recommend another method?

Thanks in advance.

tomq, welcome to the forum,

that's one method. Easier is to set the S-ATA in BIOS to compatability mode and install the driver after you have installed XP.

Andy,

So I should simply "set the S-ATA in BIOS to compatability mode" and boot the laptop with the XP CD inside and start the installation?

Once the installation is complete, go ahead a install the SATA driver in XP?

And, setting SATA to compatatbility mode with disable the laptop from informing me during the initial steps of the installation that it can't find the SATA driver, is that correct?

Thank you,

Tom

Basically Yes.
Obviously the method of installing the SATA driver in windows is different as when during an install. (Instructions are on the download site)
