Re:L13 Gen2 bios 1.08 - Win10 BSOD - RealTek vs Intel driver

2021-04-29, 11:42 AM

Yeah - at least Lenovo has removed 1.08 from  website - whats sad is that BIOS removal took couple of days and more people around the globe got frustrated.

There is a hope that soon it'll be fixed - Lenovo is working hard to solve this problem.

What makes me sad is that there is no recovery procedure available officially (e.g. inside ReadMe and/or BIOS changelog).

If BIOS upgrade goes fine there is no reason to read this procedure - but if something goes wrong like with BIOS 1.08 then

technically capable users can revert back and/or maybe help the other users.

From my point of view providing rollback intstruction is win/win stiuation both for Lenovo and customers, and also another positive point Lenovo.

How can I maintain my device without visiting service/repair centre? Consider when customers flash wrong BIOS like this one and then we have situation that

hundreds / thousands of frustrated customers bring their machine back to repair center. And what needs to be done is just to revert back to previous BIOS release...

What is the level of risk (price) for Lenovo (any other vendor) to provide this kind of instruction ? If sysplanar /motherboard is malfunctional then it does not matter if

it's because of wrong bios or some component burns... but at least there will be a procedure that can return us - customers  - to the game.

This is hilarious but now I encounter another problem. The keyboard in not working randomly. It flashes before Windows starts loading and then notning. Not a single key is working. Well, after 10+ reboots it suddenly works again. This bios/win/driver combo is totally broken. Btw does anybody know how to deal with the keyboard?)

Re:L13 Gen2 bios 1.08 - Win10 BSOD - RealTek vs Intel driver

Hmm, I observed strange behaviour regarding keyboard input - sporadically / sometimes random key looks like it's stuck - it does not matter if I use:

- laptop connected to Thunderbolt 3 40AN dock with USB keyboard

- just laptop on battery (so we can to some extent exclude grounding issues)

E.g. I lift up laptop display to wake up machine and type my credentials, but Win10 login screen field "Username" is already filled with "ssssssssssssssssssssssssss..." characters (or other char).

Once I press some key then "stucked key" effect goes away, but it also happens randomly while working.

You are right - somebody inside Lenovo must take a look seriosly whats going on here.

In the meantime I tried to install preview update KB5001391 for Windows 10 20H2 - update installed successfully but behaviour is the same - still BSOD WHEA.

I observed graphic glitches while using Win32 applications.

Also while connected to Thunderbolt 3 dock (40AN), sometimes happen that dock does not wake up cable network properly and my local network is

down (including wifi) and ports on switch flash like crazy - strange.

Only real solution: Contact Lenovo helpdesk and let them install a new motherboard. Upgrade from 1.0x to 1.06 and the problem is solved!

I’m hoping they release a new BIOS soon instead if going through the motherboard replacement part. I did file with my credit card company to refund my purchase.

Just posting a "me too" here. Unfortunate because my L13 Gen2 has already been sent for repair once with another issue (POST failure/beeping). Now getting random WHEA BSOD and going in for a second repair. Lenovo don't want to refund me either.

What makes me sad is that Lenovo is minimally communicating, or not-communicating at all in public places.

Yeah - maybe there will be more "hate" comments on the forum at the beginning, but better to have couple of hate comments

than customers leaving the ship called "Lenovo".

If vendor gains reputation that he is active in community and communicating with customers than I think it can move customers to this particular brand.

Today I asked one taiwanese motherboard vendor regarding support of Intel 11th Gen CPUs  - guess what - they replied in 2 hours ...

And Lenovo? Silence on the wire :)

Hi!

Thank for all of this. As the corporations keep hidding and dont go upfront to help the customers, we the community are helping each other to find a solution.

So cheers.

I have the same problem with a Lenovo L14 Gen 1. The BIOS update came with the Lenovo System Update application. After restart the first "freeze" appeared with a BSOD and an automatic restart. After that, windows starts but the screen freezes after a couple of seconds (3 to 20 i would say) and I could do some stuff in the meantime. Now, when it frezees it just got stuck in Windows with no response, no BSOD or restart.

Allright, I've just describe my problem on my machine (which hasn't been previously reported) to help somebody else (or you may help me)

Installed this update when it came out to fix the dock issue and now it seems like that wasn't such a good idea.

While it fixed the usb c dock issue we were having, it now causes stability issues.

Had a machine RMA'd because of the USB C dock issue, and the replacement had the same issue.

Seems like this model is causing issues for Lenovo.

Hopefully the bios releases are tested more thoroughly in the future!
