L13 Gen2 suspend to ram ACPI S3 - enable option in BIOS

2021-03-24, 16:17 PM

Dear Lenovo,

any possibility to unhide/implement option in BIOS to enable ACPI S3 Suspend to RAM? Thinkpad E15 Gen2 (20TD) have it available in BIOS.

Currently L13 Gen2 supports only "connected standby" (aka "smart standby"), which behaves really buggy.

E.g. I set monitor to go off after 3 minutes of inactivity, but machine itself decides that once laptop LCD turns off, it also sends Windows 10 20H2 to connected standby mode. How to turn off this behaviour?

What if I am downloading some big file from internet, but once my LCD goes off then my download is interrupted?

I need to move mouse and to keep laptop/windows alive :)

My machine model: 20VH - L13 Gen2 without vPro non-Yoga

Windows 10 20H2 with latest updates from March 2021.

BIOS is 1.06 + drivers are updated too.

Kindly regards,

  J.

Hello JanSe,

Greetings

Have you tried to customize the power plan settings?
Check the link from Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how-to-adjust-power-and-sleep-settings-26f623b5-4fcc-4194-863d-b824e5ea7679

You may also create your own power plan that caters to your needs.
Hope this helps

Dear Lorenzo,

thanks a lot for advice.

Custromizing power-plan was the first thing a tried to alter the behaviour of automatic transition to "connected standby".

E.g. i have 3 minutes to turn off LCD, and 1h sleep timer.

After these 3 minutes my LCD turns off (correct), and laptop immediately goes to "connected standby" (not correct).

This behaviour seems to me like some sort of bug.

I also reinstalled Windows 10 20H2 from Microsoft MSDN with latest (meaning as of today) drivers from Lenovo website and latest updates.

I believe that lot of users (and especially Linux users) will apreciate if there will be an option in BIOS to allow ACPI S3 Suspend to RAM.

I haven't found any post on Reddit / Lenovo forum that shows how somebody is happy with this new "improvement" that Microsoft/laptop vendors  forcefully brought to us :).

I'd agree with the original poster. While I own the L13 Yoga Gen2 the behavior of connected standby is buggy. E.g. waking from sleep on its own draining the battery, not letting me decide which devices can wake the computer etc.

I have had some luck by "replacing" the sleep functionality with hibernate, you might want to give that a try if it improves.

More options in the BIOS on either machine for enabling S3 sleep and power management would be very helpful.

Best,

M
