L13 Yoga GEN 2 battery life

2021-02-01, 16:54 PM

My collegue and I started today on our first working day with our new device.

10.15AM: battery @ 30%, charging back up at noon, just ended the workday with our second charge. Both devices drain battery very fast.

This device has a supposed battery life of 8-10 hours. We get 3.5 at most on a brand new device with just using regular Office apps: browser, Outlook, Teams.

We went through most of the supposed 'battery life' extend tips, but most of them were already on because we noticed it draining already very fast.

Unacceptable for a brand new device.

Re:L13 Yoga GEN 2 battery life

Hi

Thanks for joining the forums.

Battery life longevity on a laptop depends very much on the use of the machine and the tasks its being asked to perform and any external devices it is connected to.

For example, video calling from Teams on a wireless network uses more power than just reading messages and consuming content through Teams.

Could we please ask for more detail and a further explanation as I was unclear about some aspects of your post.

- Did you start your day at 10:15 with a 30% charge and then connect the laptop to charge it further?

- When charging the laptop was it charged to 100% each time or only the 80% within an hour of RapidCharge?

- Which power supply were you using a 45w or 65w

- What external devices were connected at time of use?

Thanks

- Did you start your day at 10:15 with a 30% charge and then connect the laptop to charge it further?

So for today: Fully charged 100%.

- Which power supply were you using a 45w or 65w

45W

- What external devices were connected at time of use?

None

So for today: started at 8.30, now at 12h, there is 19% left. In the last ten minutes, this dropped 6% just by standing idle. The user just used Outlook and Edge to basic office tasks. In the details 60% of the battery usage was attested to Edge and Outlook just for reading some mails and browsing a site. 10 minute train ride, without WIFI! -10%.

What's even more astonishing is that that user has been using his desktop for 50% of the time. So the 3.5h activity where actually only 1h45 active work on the device.

The battery percentages and remaining time are also very volatile. Suddenly it drops very sharp and you see it draining very fast just by using a bit of Outlook. The remaining time on the battery just goes up and down without any apparant reason.

We also have some L390 models and one of the biggest differences: the L390 is quite, the L13 Yoga Gen2 is constantly audible with fan noise. It's like the device is continually in overdrive even when just being idle.

I remain with my first statement: after using quite some laptops, this just doesn't feel normal behaviour.
