L430 ElanTech UltraNav Scrolling broken in Chrome

2013-09-26, 9:37 AM

Although I already reported this as a bug in Chrome , I am pretty confident now that this is a bug in the ElanTech UltraNav driver. Whenever I press Ctrl (and release it) and scroll on a website in Chrome with either the TrackPoint or the Touchpad, Chrome zooms in and out of the page as if Ctrl was still being pressed. This does not happen with a mouse or any other Laptops. To stop this 'zoom mode', I have to switch to another window with Alt-Tab or press Shift once. I already disabled all options in the UltraNav preferences (e.g., zoom function), but the behavior didn't change. Read all the details here: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=254545 . Please acknowledge that this is an UltraNav driver bug to save the guys from the Chrome/Chromium team some trouble. I would really appreciate a fix for this issue as this severely affects my work.

My system: L430 2466EW2, Windows 7 x64, UltraNav driver 11.4.15.2, Chrome 29.0.1547.76 and 30.0.1599.65 beta-m. According to the bug report for Chrome this also happens on Windows 8.

I also have this problem, it even happens if I try scrolling with the TrackPoint + TrackPoint middle button. It is incredibly annoying and makes the ThinkPad brand lose credibility.

Yep—I have the exact same issue, and likewise on an L430. Super-annoying.

Lenovo, is anyone listening? It's been 4 months since the first person posted this problem, and I have yet to see a reply...

And the Elantech L430 drivers really do need an overhaul: this isn't the only scrolling issue I've had with them (touchpad scrolling also refuses to cooperate in Word 2013, and cooperates only erratically in Mozilla Firefox).

Something very interesting also happens to me - i can use my usb thinkpad keyboard trackpoint to scroll in matlab. BUT when chrome is running I cannot scroll any more in matlab. So, i have to close chrome window to be able to scroll in matlab. I guess one task that chrome creates overrides this functionality.
