L460: RAM Upgrade

2021-02-28, 16:01 PM

I see on the crucial website there are 4gb and 8gb options for the L460. I also noticed there is already a chip in one of the two slots. What is the best thing to invest in here?

I have the 4gb stick in there just like you said. Could I put in 2 x 8gb sticks?

Yes, however you'd have to remove the 4GB that's in the first socket. I suggested a single 8GB module (for total 12GB) to minimize cost.

The link on the crucial site actually takes me to a SSD + ram bundle. But, this is the right 8gb chip, right?

Crucial offers both RAM and SSD upgrades but you don't have to do both. The part numbers on the Crucial and Amazon sites are the same so it shouldn't matter which you buy from. Note that Amazon says, "In stock on May 3, 2021."

First establish how much RAM you need. For most people using Windows 10 that would be a minimum of 8GB. If you already have 4GB I'd consider adding 8GB to get to 12GB.
