L480 - BIOS update 1.28 causes trouble

2018-11-10, 7:08 AM

Thinkpad L480 20LSCTO1WW
Windows 10 x64 Pro

After i updated the BIOS to recent version 1.28 some problems occured:
1) Touchpad and Trackpad not working (although they were enabled in BIOS and listed in Windows Devices)
2) Keyboard Backlit not working

Tried many things: Updated the drivers manually, CMOS reset (10sek power-button), and many other things
nothing worked
After i flashed back to 1.26 everything was working again.

Might be useful to know if anyone runs into the some problems

I had the same problem today.  I reverted back to 1.26 and my touchpad started working again.

Lenovo, you may want to pull this update for the time being.

Hi,we already reproduced this failure in engineering lab, it's caused by incorrect viarable in v1.26 BIOS, as updated from v1.26 to v1.28, there would be conflicting and system would got problem.

we are working on new-fix bios force update by TVSU。

before that, can you roll-back to v1.26 BIOS temporarily?

you can find v1.26 BIOS here

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/zh/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-l-series-laptops/thinkpad-l480-type-20ls-20lt/downloads

this problem happen only when machine built with v1.26 BIOS and then update to v1.28.

no problem if update BIOS from version before v1.26  to v1.28; or update BIOS from version before v1.26 to v1.26 then v1.28
