L512 Palmrest

2012-12-06, 3:18 AM

Hi,

I am thinking about buying a ThinkPad L512 that I found. It comes with a fingerprint reader, but I don't really want one. Would I be able to purchase a palmrest without the fingerprint reader and replace it with that one?

Thanks

I'm just confused because it looks like you can remove it and swap it out for the other palmrest, but I don't know if the motherboard is specifically made for a palmrest with a fingerprint reader.

yes you can. The fingerprint reader is connected to the motherboard through a flat ribbon cable connector.

You can disable the fingerprint reader within the BIOS, is there a functional reason why you would want to do the change over, or is it purely cosmetic?

Thanks, I currently have a T520 that has a fingerprint reader on it, and I regret spending the extra money for it. I really don't like using it.
