L520 ThinkPad (Type 5015) upgrade

2020-02-28, 0:21 AM

I have an L520 Laptop (ThinkPad) - Type 5015 and want to upgrade it.

For now, it is equipped with an Intel Celeron B810, one 2 Go RAM and a 250 Go HDD.

I will switch to 8 Go o RAM and an SDD (probably both from Crucial).

I also want to change the CPU, but for now, I am not sure what to take. I did some researches, and think the Intel I7 -2630QM would be the best "certified" choice.

I also want to change my battery because my current one is almost dead. I am looking for the small form factor one in order to fit the PC in my bag, but I don't know where to find one and what should I look at first.

I will also travel to Japan for work and won't be able to use my French charger. Is it better to use a Japanese one or is a simple plug adaptor enough?

As to the last question: as long as your power brick lists something like 100-24V 50-60Hz - which AFAIK all Lenovo bricks do - all you need is an adapter plug to use the Japanese 100V 50 or 60Hz mains.  Their sockets are generally physically compatible with North American twin flat blade plugs.

It is written 100-240 V 50/60 Hz, 20V, so I guess it is ok.

Because it is a French electric plug, I will need an adaptor anyway.

Thank you.
