Laptop switches from and battery every few seconds and doesn't charge.

2021-10-13, 19:19 PM

The laptop(Thinkpad L14 AMD Gen1) suddenly started discharging rapidly.
I installed yesterday all the latest updates.

The Lenovo Diagnostic tool says that:

10/13/2021 10:42:09 PM - Message: Possible defective components: Battery, Ac adapter

It remains stable at 5% battery but doesn't charge any further than that.
Lenovo vantage claims that the battery is fine. I tried both with a dock and directly plugging in the charger.

Both ports support charging were tested.

Hello,

This could take a few steps to correct.

First, use the mouse and select from the Windows Power Menu, "SHUTDOWN" command.   If an option is available to "Install Software Updates, then....."   Select that option.

If software updates were installed, repeat using the SHUTDOWN command until no additional updates are available to install.

Validate your BIOS settings are at "Factory Defaults" and "Optimize for OS"

Reboot into Windows and run the battery monitor tests again.    Even if they show a fault, insert your energized OEM charging device and allow the battery to fully charge.

After fullest charge possible, remove your charging device and allow battery to discharge fully to exhaustion.  (Or your minimum discharge setting, I think 10% is low enough.)

Recharge fully.

Is it cured?   If NOT, find windows device manager screens and your drivers for battery and AC power adapter.   Usually there is one driver for AC adapter and one for the battery, if a fault exists sometimes there are more than one driver for battery.   In sequence right click on each of the drivers and select "Uninstall Driver" until ALL of them have been uninstalled.   Use the mouse and select "SHUTDOWN"   then restart.

Validate function again...

IF it is still not working correctly you may need a battery replacement.   Consult a PC repair technician of your choice.  OR you can appoint yourself to be the repair technician.

Sadly none of those worked. :/
I even replaced the battery just now and it is again switching between battery and AC, didn't work.

It is discharging, very quickly as well.
