Need a driver for wireless connector

2008-05-24, 17:08 PM
I have an R50e Thinkpad 1842-QDU  (from 2005), whose operating system I just rebuilt. Unfortunately, I used XP Home (SP 2) instead of XP Pro (that's what I had on hand). Most things are back in place, but not the internet connections. I was able to locate a driver for the ethernet connection (Intel Pro/100 VE), and I am using that now.

But I have not been able to find a driver for the network controller that the OS will accept and install. (I would report the name of the controller, but the Device manager reports it as Other, Manufacturer Unknown.) I have tried to install the PRO\1000 that came with the ethernet driver; no luck. Ditto for WLLANATH and WLLANINT, that I had downloaded from the Lenovo site. Multimedia audio controller, PCI modem and the Video Controllers also are listed as not having drivers, but the wireless is the one I care about.

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks,
Dan

Welcome to the forum!

Have you unpacked the drivers from the appropriate directories after downloading them?

You should have Intel 2200BG in your ThinkPad.

Good luck and let us know.
Cheers,

George

Re: Need a driver for wireless connector

I had actually tried the first two wireless drivers on the 307.ibm site - the 802.11 and the LAN 2100 - before I gave up and came over here. When I saw the replies here, I was about to point that out, when I decided I should do one last check. There was the third driver - 2200 - which I had not thought matched my hardware, but it seemed better to make sure. And of course, it was the right one! I am connected to our wireless network even as I type this.

So thanks for the suggestions, even if it turns out they were, obviously, obvious.
