Problem with my Fingerprint reader

2010-01-28, 12:51 PM

I have clean intsalled my ThinkPad R400 with Windows 7 Home Premium. Then I tried to install TVTs and all of them works perfectly except for my Fingerprint Reader. When I tried to enroll my finger, it keeps saying that it cannot communicate with sensor and it asked me to confirm the sensor is ready. I tried to reinstall the software by downloading it from Lenovo's official website but again, it failed. How to repair this?

another thing, when I accessed the TVT Tool Box, it states under Diagnostics, under the Device Manager Alerts, it states that "PCI Simple Communications Controller" driver is not installed. I clicked at the "Reinstall driver" but it said it failed to do such. How to repair this too?

Hi Murshidi88,

Did your fingerprint reader work with your old OS, before you installed Win 7?

Did you install the 32- or 64-bit version of Windows 7?

You could check that your fingerprint reader is enabled in BIOS:

* Press F1 at the ThinkPad boot screen to get to BIOS Setup

* Go to Security: I/O Port Access and press the down arrow until you see Fingerprint Reader

* Make sure that Fingerprint Reader is set to Enabled (change it to Enabled if it's Disabled)

* Press F10 to save your settings and exit BIOS Setup.

Best regards,

Frank

Hi ThaKepi,

Welcome to the Lenovo forum! :smileyhappy:

Since you've already updated your BIOS and checked that the fingerprint scanner is enabled in BIOS Setup, it's possible you might have a hardware problem. You can burn the PC Doctor CD, boot your R400 from it and run its tests on your fingerprint scanner (and other components if you like). If the tests find a hardware problem, then the fix would be to replace your fingerprint scanner/palmrest assembly.

Good luck and please let us know how it goes,

Frank

Hi

I try PC doctor and all tests are passed without any problems, I have in Device manager driver AuthenTec AES2810, also Location is Port_#0001.Hub_#0002.

I had Win7 RC before and fingerpint works fine without any problems, so this is after installing original Win7 Prof from Lenovo. My laptop is R400, type 7443 21g

I have fingerprint software 3.3.0.58

Thank you very much for your cooperation

and you have a solution? I have the same problem and I can not solve it. after installing the driver lenovo fingerprint software asks whether to run your computer, click yes and when you restart the system hangs and nothing I can do, and how not to click and change the settings so it does not use fingerprint reader at logon is ok and the reader works properly . System crashes on startup fingerprint reader to log on. when you turn off this option is all about sorry for the language, but I'm using Google Translate because my English is not too good.

system after the format, already 6 times. I use the system update 4 to download the latest drivers. reader on Vista x64 to work properly. whether it is possible the driver has errors? may need to install the drivers in the correct order? Please help

Re: Problem with my Fingerprint reader

I've installed Win7x64 on my R500 (27325XG) recently and tried the same Remove Device trick. The Fingerprint Logon option shows up on power-on, but still the Fingerprint sensor software cannot detect (cannot communicate with) the AuthenTec sensor. Any ideas?

Re: Problem with my Fingerprint reader

Hi

I try to uninstall Windows driver and set the Lenovo Fibgerprint software. For first use everything seem to be OK, I can add one finger, but if I try to add another, the same error occurs again, "Cannot communicate with sensor." Fingerprint for my sucesfully set up finger works fine. So it seems to be something with drivers from Windows and Lenovo. I think I wait for new driver for fingerprint sensor and I try this again.

Thank you for your help

Re: Problem with my Fingerprint reader

2010-02-24, 16:56 PM

Hello again,

I came to the same conclusion that the Microsoft driver for Authen Tec in November 2009 does not work well with Lenovo Fingerprint Software. The driver contained in lenovo fingerprint software is from 07.07.2009 and it works correctly. I came to this after several format the drive and install all the drivers from the beginning. at the beginning I installed all the drivers from Windows update and I had problems installing the reader, but when the driver is not installed with the Windows update, lenovo fingerprint software installed without a problem, and the reader has no problem with the communication and everything is working properly.

as a driver from Windows update for Authen Tec, did not help me to uninstall, I had to reformat the drive and reinstall the system began to function properly.

I do not like the others, but I use Eset NOD32 Smart Security 4 and seems to me that the antivirus will not work correctly with the Lenovo Fingerprint Software. When I installed it and re-ran the computer lenovo fingerprint software not working properly again. Now I check my theory, but when I'm sure it will utter to the forum
