R40- 2682 crash

2009-03-05, 4:03 AM

I am new to this forum.  I have had R40 laptop about 3 years without any problems.  Now, it begins to give me problem.

Here is the problem...Sometimes when I am online or doing work on my laptop, then my R40 laptop crash gives me a blue screen

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shutdown to prvent demage to your computer IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.  If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.  If this screen appears again, follow these steps.  Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed,. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manifucture for any windwos updates you might need.  If the problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.  Diasable BIOS memory aptions such as caching or showing.  If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable component, restart your computer. Press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mod.

Techinical info.

STOP: 0X0000000A (0X0081B298, 0X00000002, 0X00000001, 0X804E0B31)."

I have no new hardware installed or software at all.  It also crash after I used the Recovered CDS that came with the laptop without updates to SP3.  After I updated SP3 Windows XP, it still crash.

For another thing, when the computer crash...I tried to restart again by push the power button on R40's laptop.  it turns on, but I see nothing on screen just (black)..also the hard-drive LCD doesn't come on or blink at all.  I see the light LCD on GREEN but the screen is still dark (black).

I ran out of ideas...  I though it was the memory..I ran memtest86, it shows no errors.  I also ran Lenovo PC Norton hard disk test, it said No ERROR.

What can be wrong?   I just download SPEEDFan 4.37, right now..THe temperature is 50C.  Is the temp. normal?  What should the temperature?

Please help!!!!

Thank you for any comments that help to resolve this problem....

-Andy

Updates ....  My R40 2682 laptop fan is running Ok when the laptop gets hot.  This morning I reboot my laptop from sitting overnight, my laptop crash again.  I try to revide the laptop, but I can't not.. until I remove 1 slot (256 Ram)..the laptop came back running Windows Xp...  I don't know if that is the problem or not. Right now,I am running just 256 RAM.

I try the method removed the harddrive to see if I can get my laptop back up again (windows Xp SP1), but no success. I also try the remove the battery to see that was the problem...but I have no success get laptop reboot back Windows Xp.

Anyone has a similiar problem that I have?  Please share how you get it fixed.

Andy

Try running memtest 86 on both your RAM sticks.

Good luck and keep us posted.

George
