R40 doesn't power on

2008-03-01, 4:28 AM
I have a R40 Thinkpad and when I plug into the AC the adapter gets warm, so I know it is on, but the laptop won't power on. I have tried removing the battery and powering on without it with just the AC adapter and that doesn't work. Could it be a bad battery? Is it worth getting a new battery?

Hey same here mine just started doing this too. I read somewhere that the yellow plug in the back of the laptop is loose inside so it needs to be welded. Im going to take mine apart and see whats going on. Someone told me its like $100 fix but idk.

If it is loose it may need re-soldered or replaced if it is broken. The part costs about $15.00 on ebay. The reason it costs $100.00 to fix it is because you have to take the laptop completely apart to replace it. The other $85.00 is labor charges. If it only need resoldered (unlikely) you don't have to tear it clear down to do that.
