R51 2887 NQ7 RAM Upgradation

2009-04-04, 10:52 AM

Hi,

I'm new to this community. I had purchased IBM R51 2887 NQ7 notebook 3 years back. Now I want to upgrade the RAM to the max possible. Currently it has only 256 MB of RAM. Can any one pls let me know ..

1. Upto how much RAM extend is possible (1 GB or 2 GB) ?

2. DDR1 or DDR2 will fit ?

I had consulted with local stores but they said only 512 MB of RAM extension is possibe. It does not support more than that. Is it true ?

Thanks,

Samir

Hai,

I am having a R51 2887NQ1 model laptop which i purchased 4years ago. It is corrently having 256MB RAM and 40GB harddisk. I would like to upgrade RAM. From the research which i did on internet i can go for 1GB DDR1 333Mhz PC2700 LAPTOP RAM. Did some search in ebay and found the cost to be around 3000 Indian rupees. I would like to know whether i can go further and upgrade. I am confused with 333MHZ RAM PC2700. What is the meaning of PC2700? Please respond asap. Thank you.

R51 PC2700 DDR SDRAM 200-pin non-parity SoDIMM 333MHz 2GB What is the difference between PC2100 (DDR266), PC2700 (DDR333), and PC3200 (DDR400)?

Although these are all types of double data rate (DDR) memory, the varying numbers refer to the different speeds of memory your computer was designed for. Crucial no longer carries PC2100 (DDR266) memory, but PC2700 (DDR333) memory and PC3200 (DDR400) are backward-compatible with PC2100.

Memory is designed to be backward-compatible, so generally speaking, you can safely add faster memory to a computer that was designed to run slower memory. However, your system will operate at the speed of the slowest module or system component (the "lowest common denominator" effect).

One thing to keep in mind is that the memory does need to be the same type-for example, SDRAM cannot be mixed with DDR, and DDR cannot be mixed with DDR2. We recommend that you use the Crucial Memory Advisor™ or System Scanner tools to find the right memory for your computer.

For more details about memory speeds, see Memory Speeds and Compatibility.  the pc2700 is mb/s
