R51 wireless issue

2011-04-23, 14:18 PM

The Wireless Network Connection 4 Status says Connected, Speed shows 11.0 Mbps, and Signal Strength shows 5 bars.

But when I open IE8 to any site I get - Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

TIA, Tom

ok, all fixed.
I stayed at a hotel where the wireless connection kept dropping, so thier tech support changed my TCP/IP address. I have now changed it back to obtain an IP address automatically.
Thanks anyway. Regards, Tom

Re: R51 wireless issue

in Device Manager, Other Devices - for PCI Modem I see yellow question mark with an exclamation mark.
When I click on it says - the drivers for this device are not installed - code 28.
I went to the Lenovo Drivers and Software site and downloaded to my desktop - 1rwc89ww.
Double clicked it, opens to Installshield wizard for Intel (R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adaptor Driver for Windows XP/2000.
says it will save files in folder: C:\Drivers\WIN\WLLANINT.
But when in Hardware Update Wizard, search for the best driver in these locations, and browse for C:\drivers\win\wllanint and click ok it says The location you specified does not contain any device information files.
Any ideas?

when I change the search to C:\drivers\win\wllanint\prow2100\drivers and click nect I get the message The wizard could not find the software on your computer for...PCI Modem
It is recommended that you connect to the internet so that the wizard can search.....
This is where I am now. Any ideas? TIA, Tom

-Intel Pro/1000 MT Mobile Connection with a green icon
-Intel Pro/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adaptor with a green icon
what is the yellow question amrk next to Other Devices and PCI Modem?

and isn't PCI Modem only for dial-up connection? I have DSL - do I need to get rid of the yellow question mark in this case?

What else could be stopping me for internet connection?

Your DSL would connect through the Intel Gigabit LAN port.

And you're correct, modem is for dial-up and VPN only.

What AV software  are you running?

Cheers,

George
