R61 Boot Problem after liquid spill

2008-12-02, 21:28 PM

i recently had some water spilled over the left hand side of the R61 keyboard, dried it out and it came back to life for a few hours, then it died, the lights would flash green and the fan would begin to turn but got no images on the screen (tried and external monitor too). i have since replaced the motherboard but the problem is exactly the same.

hard drive is fine, had it working in another machine that i have

just looking for some suggestions as to what to look at next?  Processor ?

thanks

Re: R61 Boot Problem

2009-02-19, 1:34 AM

I had water spilled only into the fan louver located on the left hand side of the laptop.

It has been almost 12 hrs, and showed the same symptoms as mentioned in the original post in this thread.

Lights here as in power indicator, bluetooth , wireless, battery,  except the hard drive indicator.

I haven't opened the laptop to dry it out ,yet but tried to power on/ and having to power off after resting it for a period of time, as the fan makes the shrieking sound before it stops, or so.

Any suggestions on the solution to the problem?

PROBLEM RESOLVED FOR NOW - R61 Boot Problem after liquid spill

2009-02-26, 17:39 PM

I haven't replaced the motherboard so far, and it looks like it works without the replacement.

So, here's what I did before it started working :

I had to power it on and keep it charged for more than 10 minutes during which I tried to see if

contact with the touchpad would make a difference.

I definitely heard some sound but couldn't see anything on the screen yet.

I had to power it off, and power it on.

It boots as expected.

Thank you GMAC-R60 for the help, and jjbodily for the original thread.
