SL510 New HDD problem

2014-06-20, 22:07 PM

Hello, I own a Lenovo SL510 laptop and recently my HDD has broken, so I have bought a new one - it's WD Black 750GB (WD7500BPKX). I have installed it into my laptop and have tried to turn it on, but it's not working.

When I tried to install WiN7 the programme didn't find the HDD and it's not visible even in bios in the list of booting devices. I tried another HDD with Win7 already installed and the laptop was working.

I went through some topics here and I've read that the large (750GB) or the speed (7200rpm) of the new HDD shouldn't be a problem.

Any advice for this problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi Wraithik,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing issue with HDD drive on ThinkPad SL510.

We regret to inform you that 750 GB HDD drive will not support for your system, so it is not able to detect the drive in BIOS.

Please check with other HDD drive (320GB/500GB).

Please click here for further details on maximum hardware support for ThinkPad SL510.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

I don't think this is correct. I am typing this on an SL510 with a 1TB disk (although 5400 speed) that is partitioned into the C, D and Q(recovery).

Have you tested the WD Black on another computer?
May be faulty?
