Thinkpad L14 i5 10210U Ram Upgrade

2021-01-31, 4:52 AM

My laptop has 8GB 3200MHz Ram card. It is not enough. I want to upgrade it. In windows task-manager shows bus speed as 2667MHz. If I use dual channel mood can I get 3200MHz speed or what is the speed that I should use? 3200MHz or 2667Mhz?

According to the ThinkPad L14 Gen 1 (Intel) Platform Specifications while they installed  3200MHz RAM, it is clocked down by to 2666MHz by the system due to the limitation of the processor.     Since you already have 3200MHz RAM installed, I would add 8GB of 3200MHz RAM, so that if in the future they update the BIOS to take advantage of the 3200MHz speed (they have done so in the past on other systems), your will be able to take advantage of it, and with a matched pair your system will run in Dual Channel Mode.

From the Platform Specifications linked above

Memory Type
DDR4-2400
DDR4-2666

Notes:  Installed memory is actually 3200MHz but run at 2400MHz or 2666MHz due to processor limitation
Memory Slots

Two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, dual-channel capable

Max Memory
Up to 64GB DDR4-2666
Up to 64GB DDR4-2400
