Thinkpad R52 Error 2010 and Error 200

2011-12-01, 19:46 PM

I have an IBM R52 (1860) Thinkpad. I left my R52 on and forgot to attach the adapter to power source. Battery got drained and the computer shut down. When I pressed the power button to start it again after connecting to power source, it started giving me Error 2010 and Error 200. On pressing Escape computer starts the booting but finally shows message that there is no hard disk attached to the system. My Thinkpad has worked very well since I bought it. No parts have been changed and all parts are original as supplied by IBM with Thinkpad. What do I do in such a scenario? Do I need to update BIOS? How do I update BIOS?

hey manojsriv,

welcome to the forums.

the error which you're getting, happens when ? before login into windows ? before POST ?

can you get the unit to start with the power supply connected minus the batter without any error ?

try removing and reinserting the ram.

do get back to us with your answer and we will continue from there and see if there is a need to update the BIOS .

Hi Serge1410,

This error happens before POST or I would say during the POST, when the screen is in character mode. I tried starting the unit witout battery but it still give same error (Error 2010 and Error 200).

Hi GMAC-R60,

I have tried reseating the Hard Disk, but have not tried RAM. I will try with RAM also.

You are getting two errors that are contradicting each other to a degree, and I'm smelling a possible motherboard problem here. Let me elaborate:

Error 2010 is related to an un-supported (by IBM/Lenovo standards) hard disk drive on R52, T43/p and X41/T models only. If the machine still has its factory drive, there is something very wrong with that picture.

Error 0200 is a missing or failed hard drive.

Where I would start would be to test the hard drive in another laptop, just by running diagnostics on it.

I would also start the machine without the hard drive installed. If you get the "0200 error" with no drive inserted, you are looking at a possible SouthBridge chip failure.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Cheers,

George

- Do you mean to say that my hard disk has crashed or there is some other problem. If my hard disk is gone in that case I should go for a new one. Right? Which one do you suggest?

Can you please elaborate on SouthBridge chip failure.

Manoj

Let's start with basic diagnostics:

Download and burn (as an ISO bootbale disk) PC Doctor for DOS from here:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-56222

Boot from the CD using F12 to select your media drive as a boot drive, then run all the hard drive diagnostics.

Post the results back and we'll take it from there.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George
