Wireless and Serial IO problem after March update (Thinkpad L480)

2021-04-02, 12:33 PM

Dear all,

After ten years using Lenovo R61 and two years with Lenovo L480, I am facing the first ThinkPad SW issue with Thinkpad L480.

On 19/03/2021 Lenovo Vantage updated the ThinkPad BIOS  to v1.40 and Intel Management Engine to v11.9 and after resetting, the Wi-Fi stop working.

By checking the Device Manager I have noticed that serveral devices have ERROR: Code 10 as listed below:

-Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 (Code 10: operation error)

-Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Contoller- 9D60 (Code 10: Not enough resources in the system to call the API)

-Intel(R) Serial IO I2C Host Contoller- 9D62 (Code 10: Not enough resources in the system to call the API)

-Intel(R) Management Engine Interface (Code 10: incorrect I/O devide configutaion or wrong controller parameters)

I have alredy uninstall and install al drivers by using Lenovo Vantage and Windows Update and also by doing it manually and... nothing of it works.

Hello Ric.Car.,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your L480 after some updates.

The support site shows a newer version of Intel Management Engine FW, released March 22,2021 version 11.8.83.3874.

I suggest that you use this one instead.

So please download and save it in a folder. Do not install it yet.

Kindly remove the current Intel Management engine software, then install the one that we saved in the folder.

You may also check other drivers in the support site.

Restart your computer and try the wifi.

Hope this helps

Regards,
Lorenzo_Lenovo

Thank you for your answer Lorenzo_Lenovo.

I have tried your proposal, removing the current Intel Management Engine software and installing the version 11.8.83.3874 and an error occurred "Intel(R) Management Engine Interface is not installed in the system" (see attached image) and nothing change.

In case you have any other suggestion, it will be welcomed.

Regards,

Re:Wireless and Serial IO problem after March update (Thinkpad L480)

After updated Intel® Management Engine Firmware to the last version 1909.12.0.1236, the problem persists in the controllers (Wireless, I2C y Intel ME) so, it can be concluded that the problem seems to be related to the update of ThinkPad BIOS to v1.40.

Is there any possibility to downgrade the BIOS version?

We don't recommend downgrading the BIOS, though there are fellow users who were able to flash the BIOS back to the previous version.

It's risky that's why we don't advise rolling back the BIOS

Though it might take a while, It would be better to wait for the incoming BIOS update.
By the way have you checked the support site if it has a newer BIOS version?

Thank you again Lorenzo_Lenovo. I will wait for the incoming BIOS update in the following months to verify that is not a HW issue.

Kindly try to completely uninstall drivers and then restart the machine.
Set BIOS defaults and re run BIOS update, as well as windows update.
