can my R51e be restored?

2008-03-06, 13:19 PM
when my laptop system(IBM R51e,1844-ETG) tries booting it displays a message"operating system not found" and continue blinking the command line cursor, funny enough the HDD is seen in the BIOS.The "Access IBM" button when pressed during booting displays a "Startup Interrupt Menu"instead of the recovery and workspace window .18GB of the 60GB is seen when using some recovery softwares but still windows cannot be installed.please what can i do to recover my system ?

Do you have, or maybe previously created yourself, a set of recovery CDs for your R51e?

If not and thus when in big trouble, meaning nothing works since your recovery partition or the recovery software and/or OS etc. might have been damaged, then in such cases you might order a set of recovery CDs from Lenovo (see here).

If you have an USB floppy, try this tool to repair the boot sector.  If you do not have a floppy see arlabs post in TPF, be sure to read his instructions carefully.
It at all possible I would suggest removing your hdd and copying any important files to another computer first, just to be on the safe side.

You could also boot to a Linux live cd such as Kubuntu and burn your files to a cd/dvd.
