playing a dvd

2008-05-29, 9:20 AM
Need help understanding how to play a dvd that I have copied from a home video to a DVD-R. Do I need any special program/equipment or am I just not getting it. Don't know much about computers so please talk in plain language. I do have a CD/DVD burner on my R61 8932 CTO. As elementry as it may sound, I don't have a clue how to do it. Any directions (step by step) will be greatly appreciated. The message that I get when I put the DVD in is that either it cannot detect a dvd or that the dvd is blank however, when I play it in my home dvd player, it plays just fine. Much thanks in advance for (hopefully overwhelming) response.

if you are using Windows Home Premium and Above there is a built in DVD player software called 'Windows Media Centre', so you can start it up by going into the 'Programs list' and it should be listed near 'Windows Media Player', when you start it up, there should be option that you can click that allows you to play DVDs.

you may need to close the session on your dvd discs on the standalone DVD-writer that you used to burn the original DVD, before you can play the DVD in the laptop.
