Re: Can the R500 support up to 8 gigs of ram with windows 7 64 bit

Another one here. I have a T420 with 16gb pc3 12800. I believe it's Hynix. Works at pc3 1333 though.

Anyone who gets the black screen after upgrading your ram:

Turn off machine.

Remove battery, unplug adapter.

hold down power button for at least 1 minute.

Plug in the adapter, and turn on the computer.

So far, has worked for me almost every time.

Re: Can the R500 support up to 8 gigs of ram with windows 7 64 bit

Computers/laptops with Core 2 Duo (like Thinkpad R500) or Arrandale (like Thinkpad T410, T510, X201) support only old 4GB dual rank modules with 16 chips. Most of today's sold modules are single rank with 8 chips that work with Sandy Bridge CPUs and newer cores.

Re: Can the R500 support up to 8 gigs of ram with windows 7 64 bit

Just wanted to update my post from 2011.   I am still running those 2 4GB Corsair DDR3 memory modules that I mentioned then, 8GB total DRAM in my Lenovo R500.   No problems after another 5 years, many hours a day usage.      Just replaced my keyboard for the 3rd or 4th time.   Had no idea my old one was worn out.   What a difference the new one makes.  Don't buy a used one if you can help it, I think laptop KBs wear out faster than the desktop ones.
