My R61i boots very slowly and I'm thinking about doing a clean install of XP. I do not remember getting a disk when the machine was new, but have an OEM CD of XP Pro. I've not done this before, so I need a detailed instruction. Or, is there a better way. Once the machine is booted, it still runs pretty well. It just takes forever to boot up.

For a new XP install I would recommend to create the recovery cd´s, if you haven´t done it yet.
You can check your boot times with a piece of software called soluto also.
Simply google for it, its free also.
This software shows you which program needs so much time to load and you can switch it off quiet simple.
Vijay already wrote a blog post about it.
