Default media player L540

2016-02-23, 15:23 PM

I just bought an L540 and was using it to view some videos that I had downloaded.  The application had a broad black band across the bottom of the screen, including a "Screen Cast" button on the left.  It shows the elapsed time on one side of the slider, and the remaining time on the other side.  I rather liked it.

Last night I was presented with the Windows Media Player interface which I don't like nearly as much.

Does anybody know what app this is, or how I reset it to the default.

Hi Hodag,

it may be the Windows Media Center that you had used.  What I would do is right click on a file you know you have viewed using the particular application and select open with; this should offer you some choices to try.  If you find the right application next time right click on a file, select open with again and then select default program; this will set that app as the default for that file type.

I discovered that the app I had been using was the Win 10 Modern App for Movies & TV, which apparently drops a skin over Windows Media Player.  I had uninstalled all the modern apps which caused the problem, and a reinstall fixed it.
