The fingerprint reader on my ThinkPad L380 suddendly stopped working. I tryed resetting the saved prints in Windows Hello but when trying to register them again the procedure stops at the second step: for the first step of the registration when I touch the sensor it is recognised, but for the second step when I touch it nothing happens. The driver is updated and the system does not register any problem. Is it possible that the fingerprint reader is physically broken?

The circuitry might have failed. I would first try to reset everything:
1) Turn off fingerprint option in windows hello
2) Boot into BIOS and erase fingerprints (under security menu)
3) Uninstall the fingerprint reader under the device manager
4) Reboot and let it find new hardware
You would then need to re-register the fingerprints
If that doesn't work, I would assume a hardware problem
