I received my brand new R61i today. I cannot find instructions about how to make recovery discs.

The information I have with the computer is that  I don't need them.  However if something happens to my hard drive, I won't have the recovery partition that Leonovo describes.

I have read on these forums that it is important that I make "One time" recovery discs for my computer but I can't find instructions in the documentation about how to make the discs.  Help please!

Thank you,

Re: I received my brand new R61i today. I cannot find instructions about how to make recovery discs.

Thank you Andy.

When I read those FAQs before they seemed to be addressing replacing Vista with XP so I skipped over them.  The operating system on my computer is already XP Pro.

Now I have attempted to follow these instructions:

 http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-68317

I may have messed up. The instructions said I would have to use 1 CD disc and one DVD disc or 8 CD discs.   In the end I had used no CD disc and three DVD discs.  ThinkVantage says the recovery disc making was a success and as instructed I tried to begin at step one again.  ThinkVantage said that I had already made the discs.  I kept thinking that ThinkVantage would tell me when to put in the CD disc.

Without a CD disc included, do I have a useable set of recovery discs?

Roadrunner.

Re: I received my brand new R61i today. I cannot find instructions about how to make recovery discs.

The first disc is usually a CD but it it will boot to the DVD you are fine. Usually the other discs are 2 DVD's or 8 CD's.

As long as you can boot to the first disc you are OK, if not you may have to make a :Recovery media" disc with a CD. It is the same disc as the first one in the recovery set. It is a Thinkvantage Rescue and Recovery boot disc.

Thank you carbon_unit.

How can I make a "Recovery media disc with a cd"?  Is that part of ThinkVantage?

Yes, it in the Start/All programs/Thinkvantage section. The link should be right next to "Create recovery set".
