Lenovo L390 BIOS is write protected

2019-12-26, 21:19 PM

Huge problem because I'm changing out the hard drive and need to install from USB drive.  Never had this issue before, but any change I may gives me the message Failed to save storage: System. Status: Write Protected.  At first I thought I had a bad machine.  Took another system and I have the same exact problem.

Surely there is a work around.

Hi !

We'd like to know if you're trying to install a brand new hard disk drive or refurbished one because Write Protect is a security feature can be disalbed by the manufacturer of the HDD.

Let us know.

Regards,

Brand new AXIOM 500 GB.  I think I found a work around.  I put the OEM drive back in and booted to Windows.  I then ran Lenovo Vantage and allowed it to update everything including the BIOS.  I was then able to get into the BIOS and make changes.  I'm about to put the other drive back in and see if I can install Windows from the USB drive.

This helped me too

Put the new drive back in and was able to boot to my USB device and install Windows 10 on the new drive.
