Hello,
Can somebody help me, to chose a higher performance CPU for my R60 ThinkPad 9457-WUX model?
I have now:
Intel(R) Celeron(R) M CPU 430 @ 1.73GHz
Socket 479 mPGA (0x5)
I want to upgrade to Core 2, or dual core.. Can anyone help me to chose a model what can i order over the internet? i've checked the support list, and i have found a CPU, what is supported by the lenovo's list for this model, but i'm not sure because my CPUID says that i have Socket 479 mPGA, the CPU what i want to buy is: Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2300 (2M, 1,66 GHz, 667Mhz), but it's socket is 478. This model of cpu for my laptop is supported by the lenovo's support page, but what about socket?
Thank you so much!
Regards,
Szabolcs

Welcome to the forum!
Any of these will work: T2300. 2300E, 2400, 2500, 2600, 2700. Those are Core Duo CPUs.
Then you have T5500 and T5600 which are Core 2 Duo, but with 2MB L2 cache so they're pretty inexpensive nowadays.
Finally, there are T7200, 7400 and 7600 which are Core 2 Duo with 4MB L2 cache and somewhat more expensive.

With a 945 chipset, any of the CPUs mentioned in my previous post will work just fine. Just make sure that you have the latest - or at least a very recent - BIOS version installed.
Happy upgrading.

from scanning through the ltwbook...
r60 machine types: 9455, 9456, 9457, 9458 & 9459 are detailed as: Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset
r60 machine types: 9460, 9461, 9462 & 9463 are detailed as: Mobile Intel 945PM Express Chipset
for r60e machine types: 0657, 0658 & 0659
looks like the "core" models are detailed as: Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset
while the celeron models are detailed as: Mobile Intel 940GML Express Chipset
fwiw.
