I have got this Notebook for a year now and it should be very fast, if you look for the components, but actually it is the slowest Notebook I have ever seen. I tried everything, installing Windows XP, installing Vista, installing Windows 7, every time very slow and when I start the Notebook I have to wait at least 5 to 6 minutes, before I can start a little programm like firefox.
A friend of mine has got exactly the same Notebook with the same OS. His one is so much faster, like when you make a race between a Ferrari and a scooter. I have got nothing in the autostart, except an anti virus programm.
Does anyone know what to do?

T8300(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1280x768 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32
This is your system spec, did you have any other additional parts installed? Also did you change any BIOS settings like for CPU or HDD?
How much hdd free space do you have left?

thank you for your answer. Yes, this is my spec, I have nothing changed in the BIOS, didn't change the HDD, everything is untouched.
Now, I have got 24GB free space, but with 50GB the Notebook is NOT faster.

do you have Thinkvantage Rescue and Recovery software installed? also when you try to open programs what is the typical CPU usage?

it was installed, but i deinstalled it hoping that the notebook became faster...but it's still very slow. my typical cpu usage:
15-20% if i do nothing
30-50% opening open office writer
60-100% if i open the internet explorer (for a very long time)
the cpu usage seems on both cores nearly to be the same. they are both working all the time

what is running in the background when you do nothing? Also, how many anti-virus and spyware software are you running? Is the XP pro from Lenovo or aftermarket?

Just Kaspersky, originally there was Vista on the Notebook, XP and 7 are both from university, we have got this campus-license-stuff from Microsoft. There is just running Kaspersky Internet Suite in the background, really nothing else, but it's not scanning. If I try to scan, nothing else works except Kaspersky, it's too slow.
