Lenovo R61i Rescue & Recovery

Hey,

I'm a teenager and i don't really know much about computer & stuff. But my mom's laptop is currently facing a problem, each time we start the computer it will stay at the start up screen for very long so i'll press the 'ENTER' Button.

Later there will be a loading bar, when its done loading it brings us to the Rescue & Recovery page (grey background with a life buoy), i click enter again and it shows a bar saying something like this: Waiting for updates to finish initializing. I click enter again, which brings me to the Rescue & Recovery application, i click restart and then everything is fine. How do i solve this problem? Is there a virus in my computer? Theres a lot of important things inside the laptop and we definitely do not want it to crash or whatsoever.

Please reply & give me detailed steps on how to solve this problem.

Thank you in advance,

Mike

Re: Lenovo R61i Rescue & Recovery

first run a hdd diagnostic from BIOS (press F1 during initial startup) then go into the hdd diagnostic menu and run a test from there.

Re: Lenovo R61i Rescue & Recovery

Hi,

My laptop type is: 7742-A24

And i've tried running a diagnostic test but its taking way too long, even after 5-10 mins its still at 0% While the description says it will only take up 1 minute/GB.

Is there any other solution to this matter?

Thank you in advance,

Mike

Re: Lenovo R61i Rescue & Recovery

without running a diagnostic test then it is hard to pin point the exact cause of problem.

Re: Lenovo R61i Rescue & Recovery

Hey,

I have done the diagnostic test & everything is okay. Here is what it says on the screen when the diagnostic test is complete.

Pass: Controller Diag.

Pass: Read verification and speed test.

What do i do next? Or maybe should i just let the services finish initializing?

Thanks

Mike

Re: Lenovo R61i Rescue & Recovery

Try using the system restore to go back to the first point before the system started doing this.

Re: Lenovo R61i Rescue & Recovery

Re: Lenovo R61i Rescue & Recovery

To the best of my recollection, no lost data, but you will need to reinstall any software installed since the restore point was made. As I recally, the process restores the various windows finles that have been changed or updated, such as the registry, etc., and isn't concerned with data files. Otherwise, it would take up way too much space on the hard drive.
