Lenovo r 61 upgrade

hi

I have an r 61 with T 7300 processor at 2 ghz.

Is it possible for me to upgrade this  with a T 7500 2.2 processor.

how many memory card slots are availble in r 61. 2 or 4?

Re: Lenovo r 61 upgrade

yes you can upgrade to a T7500, but you will not see much performance improvement, you will lucky to see a 5 to 7% increase in the overall speed.

There is only 2 ram slots, the only Thinkpad that has 4 ram slots are the W701 and the W510.

Re: Lenovo r 61 upgrade

Yeah that would be a waste of money too, Alot of people confirm that a 10% boost in speed from time consuming tweaks is not that much of an improvement as you will get use to it in a few days and you will no longer notice the increase in speed. Then you will be upset for the wasted money. If your wanting to upgrade the memory check the prices at www.pricewatch.com Per http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67735#mem you can have a T7700 which is a 2.4 which I'm not sure how much a boost it would give you either. T7700 chip here $100 http://www.pricewatch.com/gallery/cpu/core_2_duo_mobile 2g Ram sticks $40 http://www.pricewatch.com/gallery/system_memory/so-dimm_ddr2_pc2-5300_2gb

Re: Lenovo r 61 upgrade

thanks

the thing is I already have the T7500 from another laptop with broken video chip.

that is why i am thinking of upgrading.

The lenovo r61 specifications say T7300 has a 667mhz FSB and T 7500 has 800 Mhz FSB.

but notebookcheck says T 7300 is also 800mhz.

Will there be a compatibility problem with the mother board if I upgrade

my model no. is 7743A11

Re: Lenovo r 61 upgrade

That would be because your ram runs @ 667mhz.

Re: Lenovo r 61 upgrade

I would say so. It does say you can. "Processor * Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology * Available processors are: o Intel Core Duo processor T7100(1.8GHz), T7300(2GHz) + 4 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz front-side bus o Intel Core Duo processor T7500(2.2GHz), T7700 (2.4 GHz) + 4 MB L2 cache, 800 MHz front-side bus " from the link I posted above.
