I am currently using Lenovo R61i and my speakers have stopped working from sometime so I thought it was a driver problem. so I have reset my laptop to factory settings, but still facing the same problem. Like to know if this is a hardware or a driver problem. Well the audio works if I use a ear/head phone.
After so many days suddenly I could get the audio back from the laptop speakers. But only it was a just for few moments. Can any one suggest what might be the problem.

you can run a hardware diagnostic test through the Rescue and Recovery console (press the blue thinkvantage button during startup), this should allow you to determine whether the speakers are working or not.
You can contact Lenovo warranty support, if you have warranty remaining.
