R40: Intel Pro WLAN / LAN Adapter dead after USB WLAN stick install

2010-02-20, 19:37 PM

Hi there,

I have a very nasty problem. After installation of a Netgear USB 2.0 WLAN stick the installed WLAN/LAN adapters do not work anylonger.

Devicemanager: both adapters there and active

Network Connections: no adapter listed. Adding did not work. Failure message: following adapters are not connected to the system.....

Driver: tried to install all the drivers again. But I could not uninstall the Intel Network Connection driver. I tried to uninstall instead all the other drivers and reinstall but it made no difference to the problem

Could the Netgear tool somehow manipulated the system that it disconnected the internal adapters? And if how to reconnect?

Maybe you have a good idea, its the final post I try before giving up on this problem :-(

Welcome to the forum! Download and burn a copy of a "live" Linux CD and boot from it. If your wired and wireless LAN work OK there, there's a driver issue within Windows. If they don't , there's a hardware problem. One distro that should work out of the box on a R40 is Mint, choose from here: www.linuxmint.com Good luck.
Cheers,

George
