R40 - No sound playing DVD's

When I put a new combo drive in the R40 that I gave as a gift, it had worked perfectly. But now it has no sound with playing DVD's.  I have done windows update and checked drivers for best match and updates. system shows everything working properly.   Any suggestions?

Have you checked the Audio settings in Control Panel?
Quite often there is a tick-mark in the Mute box, that stops any sound from coming out.
Or change the preferred settings for Audio output.

Re: R40 - No sound playing DVD's

We still havent figured out why wmp (xp pro) has lost the sound when playing dvd's (it works great for cd's), so we have downloaded another dvd player program...I think it is win-dvd?  anyway that program is playing dvd's with sound.     Thanks for the tips.

You will probably have even better results with VLC Media Player, smaller footprint, includes most all codecs.
