R400 trackpoint

I have a Thinkpad R400 with Windows 7 installed. I have tried several times to activate the trackpoint with no success.
I have checked in the bios screen which lists it as active (automatic) but when I check under mice in the control panel it only gives me the touch pad not the track point.

I performed a driver update which gave me UntraNav but it has the track point greyed out.

Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: R400 trackpoint

Hi CountryLad,

Have you installed Ultranav Utility and Ultranav Driver?

Vince.

Re: R400 trackpoint

I have installed both, it just gave me the ultranav utility rather than the windows mouse properties box.

Neither file has enabled the track point. I have doublechecked the bios settings again and the track point is enabled in bios too.

Re: R400 trackpoint

Remove the keyboard and unplug the touchpad from the motherboard, then plug the keyboard back in.

Do you have the mouse (TrackPoint) now?

Cheers,

George

Re: R400 trackpoint

I really don't know much about removing the keyboard let alone unplugging the touchpad. Suely there must be a sollution that doesnt require pulling the laptop to bits.

Re: R400 trackpoint

If it's not a software issue, then it might be a software issue.

Thinkpad are quite easy to service. Here is the Maintenance Manual: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/43y6629_05.pdf

Follow the steps to remove the keyboard. It just involve a couple of screws.
