R500 & 8GB RAM

Has anybody upgrated his Thinkpad R500 with more than 4GB RAM? I am thinking to buy this Model, but before I want to be sure that the hardware and BIOS support 8GB RAM.

I ask, because there are some shops who offer them (untested) with an upgrate up to 8GB, because of the Intel PM45 Chipset, but without guarantee.

Thanks Smiley Happy

Re: R500 & 8GB RAM

yes you can get 8 gigs of DDR3 ram, but it is still pretty expensive right now.

Re: R500 & 8GB RAM

, Thank You Smiley Happy

Actually I got a Link to a new data sheet on the official Lenovo Homepage, where you could find the following information in the column of the R500 series: "Up to 8GB of Pc2-8500 1066mHz DDR3". (see here PDF) I think, this Information should also attune for the older model in den R500 series, and so for the 2732 models.

Re: R500 & 8GB RAM

so you are going to get 8 gigs with the R500?? I have 8 gigs with my T61 and X61... the performance increase is hardly noticeable for me, since i don't run any ram intensive programs as of yet. But who knows i may decide to go crazy with programs in the future.

Right now DDR3 in 2 x 2 gig module represents the most value for money.

Jin Li

Re: R500 & 8GB RAM

Smiley Very Happy I became already crazy from the programms. If You are still normal than You should take maybe the last chance to escape from comuter work. Smiley Tongue

In the further future I want to upgrade to 8GB, if the prices are lower. Today I agree with You: 4GB RAM are enough for my purse  and e.g. for video cutting. Smiley Wink

Re: R500 & 8GB RAM

@ lead_org, may I ask You, was it difficult zu instal 8GB RAM on the T61 and the X61? Have You updated the BIOS or have you changed any hardware components on the original system? According to Lenovo, Your models are still not provided to have more than 4GB RAM, if my recherche has been right.

Re: R500 & 8GB RAM

no updates of bios it is supported natively, the document that stated the 4 gig limit was written when only 2 gigs modules were announced.

The upgrade is really easy, take off your palmrests and you are home free... the ram slots is located under the palmrest touchpad area.

Re: R500 & 8GB RAM

I have bought 2 x 4GB Kingston KVR13S9S8/4, 4GB PC3 - 10600 CL9 204 pin SODIMM (not a kit), but my R500 2733-W2K does not recognizes them. Not even if I install one of 4GB only. Memories are OK - work on another computer different than mine (not ThinkPad). Could anybody help, please?
