I have an R51e that is about six years old. Everything is original equipment. It functioned without major issue until two hours ago. The processor is a 1.6 ghz Celeron; the OS is Windows XP Professional.
When I turn on my laptop it goes to the BIOS screen and tests the system RAM and the extended RAM, and then stops. I can cause the machine to claim to be "entering setup..." by pressing F1 after the extended RAM passes, or I can case the message telling me to hit the thinkvantage button to disappear by pressing the thinkvantage button. Neither action has any effect other than those mentioned.
I have tried removing each of my RAM chips and starting, but neither has any effect beyond decreasing the amoun of extended memory recognized. Prior to the freeze I had left the machine running while plugged in and sitting on a linoleum floor.
any advice on how to rescue my laptop would be appreciated. Please let me know if you would like to know more.
