If you are hearing the beeps and your system is not booting up at all, you can find a list of our beep codes on this link:
For most of our beeps, usually replacing the memory first will resolve most of these issues. At other times, you will need to take advantage of your warranty (I hope you have one) and contact tech support to replace your systemboard (could be an issue with the internal video card or the security chip depending on the beep pattern you are experiencing).
I hope everything works out for you.

Solved the problem by myself. you guys are not gonna believe what went wrong with my thinkpad. Initially, i thought it was because of the security chip or something like that. turns out it was the RAM.i got two 1GB memory sticks. i thougth it would be the most unlikely thing for the both to fail. so i tried using only one each time, but it didn't work. as i already gave up on fixing it myself and i had done all i could. so i decided to give it my last shot. i didn't expect it would make a difference anyway. i happened to have a 512M memory stick from a friend. so i put it in, and my laptop came back to life right away!
unbelievable. i cound't believe both rams failed. i've been using it for less than a year. what kind of crappy memory can that be?!
Anyway, thanks all of you for the help.
P.S. hey, lead_org, it's a nvidia
