R61i vertical red line in center of display

Someone gave me that laptop (R61i) I know for a fact that the display was working properly at some point; the previous owner hit the laptop intentionnaly (probably on the keyboard, but I don't have this information). Since that event there is a permanent vertical red line on the display, exactly at the center.

Is it a problem that could be solved by installing a new inverter ? There are no problems when I plug an external display.

Re: R61i vertical red line in center of display

Hi Alecail,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We are sorry to hear that you are getting vertical line on laptop display.

Please confirm whether the vertical line occurs in BIOS and safe mode as well.

Please do confirm which operating system is running on your laptop.

Best Regards,

Poojitha.

Re: R61i vertical red line in center of display

The vertical line is present as soon as the display is turned on (BIOS or high resolution), regardless of the resolution or the operating system. I tested it on Windows 7 and Linux Mint.

Re: R61i vertical red line in center of display

Hi Alecail,

Thanks for providing us the details.

We understand that vertical line occurs in BIOS.

Please update the chipset and video drivers from the below given links.

Video Drivers  - http://support.lenovo.com/in/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-R-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-R61...

After updating the drivers if still issue persists I would like to suggest you to visit the authorised Lenovo service centre for the hardware assistance.

Re: R61i vertical red line in center of display

My guess is a defective panel. What happens if  you press on the border of the LCD, close where the line is?
