Question

I recently reformatted my thinkpad SL500 to Windows XP pro and everything has gone smoothly, but  I am unable to get the audio to work.

I've downloaded the latest conextant audio drivers(3.54.0.0) from the support page, but when installing the actual drivers, I get the error message "Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver."

When I check audio devices under device manager, there are no yellow exclamation points. However, I do not see anything resembling the conextant device. Is the laptop not recognizing the actual sound card?

My system type is 2746CTO.

Answer

Depending on the Service Pack level installed, some hot fixes may be required.

"Windows XP Service Pack 2 hotfix".  After installing that, Windows should recognize new devices, which is when I installed the conextant audio driver from support page, and the no media device error message was resolved.
