Since yesterday I am having this error. All USB ports are plugged in. If I unplug them all, the boot process goes smooth.
If it needs serviced I am screwed, I am not in the US, am on a business trip in Chile.

Sounds like the hub may be identifying itself as a wan device. Does it have any wireless capabilities? Can you post a link of the device you are using?

I hope this is not duplicated elsewhere as I am having the same issue and this is the only thread I found dealing with the specific issue.
I have a new SL510 Type 2847-3ZU with bios version 1.35 (6JET77W) and am getting the 1804 Unauthorized WAN card error.
The twist is that unlike other 1804 error threads, the problem has nothing to do with a WAN card.
I only get the error when I boot with a Crystal Engineering Fast Cal Unikey License key dongle attached to a powered Cyberpower USB2.0 7 Port hub ( Mod# CP-H720P).
Booting with the USB Hub alone or with the serial adapter attached for a test gauge boots fine but I am having to remove the license dongle, boot and then reinsert before accessing the test gauge program.
Of Note is that minus the dongle installed everything else works with no errors. I am not using any type of USB or PCcard WAN device when I boot and the onboard WiFi card works fine with no errors the entire time.
My big issue is that even though the work around noted above works, this is in a production setting for a customer and I have egg on my face as the replaced tried and true Dell does not have this issue.
The license key dongle is definitely not a WAN adapter and nothing should be identifying itself as such in device manager except the actual onboard Wifi adapter which as stated works fine.
The problem seems to stem around bios boot devices, USB conectivity and Identification. Another note is that I turned off all LAN and USB boot options in the bios. So technically it should not have bothered with them anyway

Surfing the web I have found where other Lenovo notebooks have had similar USB boot issues with error 1804 and a Bios fix was instituted. A possible start point for a resolution? The bios update was for ThinkPad R60e, R60i (Types: 06xx). and was on the bios Version 7EETB9WW (2.09). With the latest version of that series being 2.20. This may be an apples and oranges thing but at least this is a starting point as my issue appearantly has its roots in how the bios detects and then uses certain USB boot devices. I have also checked and the SL510 bios updates only goes to 1.40 with none seemingly solving the 1804 issue.

In the spirit of clarification and correct communication here I would say my posting seems to be a bit different from the original posters so please take note. The original posting was similar enough for me to piggyback onto and in so doing prevent creating a wasteful duplicate thread. However due to this piggyback fact, I would caution all against speed reading or assuming content from the begining. Please note my respect for all postings as I don't want to come off as harsh or condescending but I find technical communications are often very difficult to convey correctly.

Has anyone checked the in the BIOS to turn off the ability to boot USB devices?
Yes, one of the first things I tried was turning off all Bios related boot options. I have no need for booting from CD/USB and therefore, in troubleshooting turned off all options to try to prevent conflict. This had absolutely no effect on the 1804 error which to me is telling.
What it is trying to do is read the HUB for bootup options. When it is unplug it runs smooth due to not being able to search the HUB.
In my case I don't believe this is valid. I can boot without problems with the hub plugged in and even a USB serial adapter plugged into the hub. I would think that would throw things off before my dongle key would.
to clarify the only thing that trips the 1804 error on my SL510 noted in my first post is when I plug in the license key dongle into any USB port (powered hub or direct on unit) before booting.
Note that the dongles manufacturer states that their seems to be nothing wrong with the dongle as it continues to work normally on a replaced Dell (before, through and after booting) and works on the Lenovo after booting.
Also of note is that the dongle is simply a license key dongle using USB instead of Parallel port tech. The dongle contains nothing related to WAN tech that I know of and I find it curious that the Lenovo seems to think so.
Finally, I am not using any other external wan related items that might trip the system in conjunction with the dongle. Therefore at least in my case, the error seems to be centered around how the Lenovo's bios see's and more importantly handles various USB ( the dongle) devices for boot options before final post.
