SL500: beep when power state changes too loud

2009-01-11, 13:28 PM

Hi!

The beep when the power state changes is annoyingly loud. Is there a way to adjust its volume level? I have an SL500 running WinXP. On my R61 the beep is a lot more silent.

Thanks!

you can enable/disable the beep in the bios, under alarms i believe.

I'm not aware of any way that lets you adjust the volume except turning it on/off.

I know about disabling/enabling it in BIOS, but I was hoping that I could adjust the volume level, since my R61 has a lower level. I don't get it why Lenovo put so different levels on R61 and SL500.

I'm pretty sure you can adjust the volume under the sound mixer.  It's listed as PC Speaker or something like that.  I just turned it off in bios because Ubuntu linux 8.0.4.1 doesn't provide a slider for the PC speaker on this laptop just yet.

I went to Control Panel -> Sounds and audio devices and there I couldn't find the PC volume slider. I have the Volume, Wave, SW Synth, CD Player and Microphone, but no PC speaker.

I had the same issue and had to turn it off in the Bios. It's the only thing that worked.

I (think) I found the solution. If you go to control panel -> sound -> playback tab -> speakers ->properties -> levels, you should then see a PC Speaker slider. Now mine was already set to mute, but if you unmute it and remute it, I was able to disable the sound. Hopefully it will stay like this.

In BIOS there are three switch of sounds (enabled/disabled)

but on XP SP3 this helps additionally:

Start->Run->sc stop beep
Start->Run->sc delete beep
